The heavy truck industry has long been tolerant of the astronomically high costs associated with worker injuries. A global truck manufacturer bucked this trend after hearing the savings that O/E was able to achieve for its other clients. In May of 2006, the company hired O/E to implement SafetyIMPACT! at five of its seven North American manufacturing facilities.

Each of the plants saw significant improvements in their rates and significant savings in the average cost of injuries as well as Workers' Compensation costs. One plant alone realized an 88% improvement in Workers' Compensation costs and a return on investment of over $3 million in the first eight months alone. This same plant had a reversal in its upward trend in its incidence rate and finished the year with a 34% improvement reduction of this rate. The plant also had even better improvement in its Lost Work Day Incidence rate, with a 36% improvement.

While these results were not typical, they were not an anomaly either. All plants received a return on investment in the first eight months of implementation and unprecedented improvements in both metrics and injury-related operating costs.
