UAW-Chrysler
Decoris Glenn – Assistant Director (Retired)

The U.S. auto industry has become increasingly competitive and, to survive, automobile manufacturers must look for ways to reduce costs and increase productivity. In 1999—recognizing the potential for furthering both of these goals—the UAW and Chrysler signed a Joint Letter of Agreement that created Bringing Excellence to Safety Teams (B.E.S.T.). In creating B.E.S.T., the UAW and Chrysler established the vision of becoming the safest workplace in heavy industry. Both the company and the union recognized that for worker safety to improve, a fundamental change in the corporate culture would be necessary. UAW-Chrysler contracted with O/E and the journey to a safer and more productive workplace began.

As Associate Co-Director of the NTC, I have always been able to depend on O/E to deliver high quality, cost competitive products and services on time and within budget.

The “whatever it takes” attitude of the O/E team to satisfy your customers has been exemplified on every project you have done for us. The people you have assigned to work with the NTC Joint Programs have taken responsibility to keep our projects, whether large or small, on track and assured high quality results on each and every project.

A few of the projects that I am the proudest of are:

The Health and Safety Specialist Certification Program which for the past 10 years has provided our health and safety professionals with an outstanding “roadmap” for their training and professional development. I am encouraged to know that there are over 250 people who have completed the program and there are over 250 more who are in the process of achieving their certification.
The kiosks, which for the past 12 years have delivered health and safety training on 18 different topics to UAW-represented workers in an interactive, multimedia format. Your program development, help desk, and on-site support services are excellent.
The Health and Safety and Ergonomics Conferences that your conference team has helped us design, develop, and produce have provided high quality training and practice-sharing experiences for our health and safety committee members over the past 10 years.
Bringing Excellence to Safety Teams (B.E.S.T.), which through your participation since its inception in 1999 and your development team’s assistance, has helped us reach our goal of being the safest place to work in heavy industry.
